Workshop Supervisor

Main Purpose of Job
• Responsible for the routine operation of the workshop in terms of efficiency, cost containment, customer service levels, maintenance standards and safety performance. Organise workshop workload ensuring company quality and efficiency standards are achieved.

• Supervises workshop employees and monitors performance levels.

Key Tasks

Compliance

• Ensure Health & Safety policies and procedures are actively followed
• Ensure the location is in compliance with regulatory bodies
• Ensure vehicle compliance is maintained
• Implement and maintain policies and campaigns
• Work with Workshop Manager to ensure location operates effectively and is compliant

Financial & Operational

Responsible for safe and effective operation of the workshop
• Control maintenance expenditure through formal pre-approval of repairs for each work order
• Deliver maximum utilisation and productivity of Technicians
• Ensure all workshop performance standards and procedures are followed • Ensure maximum vehicle reliability and uptime
• Identify maintenance cost savings and performance improvement opportunities
• Authorises repair expenditure within designated limits • Authorises overtime

Customer

• Provide proactive advice and support to customers to assist them in safe and cost effective operation of vehicles • Responsible for ensuring that each work order accurately details the work carried out with appropriate work order comments where necessary • Prior to work order approval, is responsible for ensuring that the repair data and information on each work order matches the corresponding service documentation • Ensure effective communication to Workshop Manager regarding any issues likely to affect customer service • Maintain effective relationships with internal customers and departments

Staff Management and Communication

• Ensure safe working practices are observed by all workshop staff • Ensure a highly productive and motivated workforce dedicated to high quality vehicle maintenance • Maximise productivity in all workshop staff • Monitor sickness, absenteeism, punctuality and advise Workshop Manager • Identify and bring to the notice of the Workshop Manager any manpower issues • Assist in the co-ordinating of technical training requirements • Assist the Workshop Manager in the preparation of performance appraisals • Promote quality and continuous improvement process • Ensure effective communications between all maintenance locations • Provide clear and concise written and verbal communications • Establish and maintain quality customer, vendor and location staff relations

Qualifications
Essential Qualifications

• Engineering qualification (likely to be gained in an LGV environment) achieved through a recognised formal training programme • Full UK Driving Licence – LGV preferable • IT literacy – including MS Word, MS Excel • Good levels of numeracy, literacy and verbal communication

Desirable Qualifications

• English and Maths at GCSE level, or equivalent • ECDL Qualification

5. Experience

• Relevant experience in commercial vehicle repair and maintenance • Strong technical/maintenance background • Strong communication skills • Strong organisation skills/time management
