Description
Solution Design and Project Manager / Logistics Consultant
To develop innovative business-winning solutions that meet the needs of the customer by demonstrating a clear understanding of their business. Provide implementation support for new business activities. Work closely with operations teams providing operational and process support to ensure the maximisation of opportunities and development of existing business.
Main purpose of job
Develop Dedicated Delivery Solutions that are compliant with the appropriate legislation and corporate standards.
Where necessary conduct live daily operational planning
Manage and develop additional business / new solutions for existing clients by working with the operations teams.
Lead and guide project teams in the development and presentation of winning solutions.
Provide technical advice and high-level project support to the operations teams, and other areas of the business as required
Develop internal client relationships between existing contract managers and the Solutions and Central Planning team.
Gain understanding of and support system interfaces for Ortec OTD planning system, Customer systems and Microlise.
Assist in the development and implementation of solutions design strategies.
Ensure that solutions strictly adhere to the companies documented processes and work within the defined operational parameters.
Integrate closely with operations teams to ensure maximisation of opportunities.
Reports to Contract and Implementation Manager
Provides lateral communication to:• Commercial team• Operations team• Business Development team• Other support functions
Qualifications • Degree in associated discipline desirable but not essential.• Professional qualifications to full member standard preferred.• Advanced user in 2 of the following disciplines • Network design, warehousing modelling and routing & scheduling software 4.
Key Skills• Ability to manage multiple projects.• High level of computer literacy e.g. Advanced Microsoft Access & Excel, Planning/ Routing & Scheduling software.• High ethical standards and integrity.• Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills.• Strong logistics problem solving skills coupled with the ability to think strategically.• Good verbal and written skills.• Prepared to travel anywhere with the UK – Some overnight stays.
Experience
Detailed understanding and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in 2 of the 3 functional areas below:• Network design and transportation• Transportation management
Ability to demonstrate good working knowledge in the following areas:• Supply Chain • Internal logistics operations• Operations• Implementation• Information Technology both desktop and enterprise• Business Acumen
Proven solutions experience in some of the following vertical market sectors and territories• Automotive to include inbound, sequencing and aftermarket• High Tech• Industrial• Manufacturing• Furniture• Home Delivery• Pick and pack operations•
Duties and key responsibilities
Daily activities
Develop logistics solutions that meet the needs of both internal and external customers, using the appropriate routing & scheduling or network design software.
To plan and manage day-to-day activities to facilitate smooth progression of a logistics project, according to the demands of the specification
Support ongoing implementation of logistics solutions within new and existing contracts.
Assist in the development of new service offerings to maintain market position and to respond to changes in the marketplace.
Support operations in order to retain existing business at contract renewal with enhanced, innovative & cost effective solutions.
Support / understand new target markets in order to generate innovative solutions, implementation plans and processes.
Ensure all project plans are maintained in an up to date status for short, medium and long term needs.
Ensure that all data analysis is completed in an analytical and timely manner, and provide an accurate overview of the customer’s current business / operations.
Based on the above, develop logistics solutions that add value to both the customers and our business
As part of a multi-functional team, assist with the development of the proposal document and presentation as required.
To work on logistics projects in the UK.
Business retention and support of new contract development• Work with operational resources to achieve contractual requirements to meet the needs of customer.• Meet target account clients regularly to ensure mutual adherence to contract terms and to establish new / future needs.• Define ongoing customer activities within target account planning activities, develop new projects and seek opportunities for growth.• Generate target account plans together with operational management to leverage existing relationships to maximise account development potential.
Technical• Provide advanced design and project management of integrated logistics solutions, from scenario development through implementation, which impacts the following functional areas within a client’s supply chain:i. Inbound and outbound transportation
Facilities
Value added processes Information technology. Order management Order fulfilment Procurement Inventory management Reverse logisticsx. E-commerce.• Support strategic direction to network/transportation rationalisation projects to include:Mode selection Consolidation/de-consolidation. Tool selection and integration Integration of supply chain components v. Scenario validation. Transportation strategy definition based on new business requirements
Team Working• Work with clients and colleagues to develop a multi-functional team approach to optimise solutions.• Assists in the formulation of an overall framework for solutions design and proposal strategy.• Ensure that key developmental milestones, timelines and responsibilities are set and communicated• For implementation and consultancy projects monitor expenditure and implement actions to achieve or improve upon approved budgets whilst maintaining quality standards.
